How Wayne State University Modernized And Reduced Energy Costs Using Low-E Films

Wayne State University, located in Detroit, Michigan, is Michigan’s third-largest university after the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. In an effort to preserve the integrity of the original building and single-pane glass windows, the University has partnered with energy performance companies to prolong the lifespan of their glass while also being more energy efficient.

An original building on the campus of Wayne State University in Detroit that has recently been updated with sun control window film.

So instead of tearing out all of their existing glass, windows, and metal frames, the energy performance company working for Wayne State University asked Clearview Tinting to apply film to all of their windows as a more cost efficient and eco-friendly way to insulate their entire building.

We installed the same 3M LE35AMARL window film that we use in residential applications to the South side of the building to utilize the insulation properties of the Low-E film, as well as for heat and glare blockage in the summer. This Sun Control Window Film reduces up to 70% of solar heat and 66% glare while also retaining 26% heat loss in the colder months. It also has a reflective Amber tint on the exterior.

The 3M LE70 film was utilized on the North side to keep the existing ambient light while also providing insulation in the winter.
